EL ROCIO
EXPERIENCE ONE OF THE MOST OLD SPANISH TRADITIONS
owards the end of May, the small village of El Rocío, in Huelva, celebrates the Romería (pilgrimage). Hundreds of pilgrims arrive on horseback, by foot, or in horse-drawn carriages adorned with flowers.
The purpose is to celebrate, drink and sing day and night, and later participate in processions, where brotherhoods carry their saints and the Rocío Virgin Mary around the candle-lit village. You will have the chance to experience the pilgrimage first-hand with our local host, wearing a customary gown or suit, and sleep in a magically-adorned campsite lit by candles and torches.
